Lean Turkey Taco Bowls

Delicious tex-mex flavours in a lean but hearty meal you won’t be disappointed to eat again and again. 

Lean Turkey Taco Bowls

Yield: 6 servings       Prep: 10 minutes       Cook: 25 minutes

Turkey Mixture:

  • 1.5 lbs extra lean ground turkey
  • 1 small red onion, diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne (optional)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup frozen corn

Additional Bowl Ingredients:

  • Quinoa or rice
  • Salsa
  • Cheese
  • Avocado or guacamole
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Jalapeños
  • Black olives
  • Sour cream
  • Tortila Strips
  • Lime
  • Cilantro

In a large nonstick skillet, brown the ground turkey over medium heat and break into small pieces. Add in the diced onion and pepper and continue to cook until the meat is cooked through and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.

In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, cumin, chili, garlic power, onion powder, oregano, paprika, cayenne. Add in the beef broth and whisk to combine.

Pour the beef broth mixture and tomato sauce over the ground turkey and bring to a boil. Add in the black beans and corn and let simmer for 15 minutes.

Serve over quinoa or rice with your choice of toppings.


This meal is perfect for a big family dinner. Everyone can customize their own bowl and create their own version. It also it really great for a meal prep. You definitely won’t get sick of eat this all week. Bonus- this is freezer friendly, so make a big batch and same some for later!
