Meaty balls of goodness coated in a sweet and tangy tomato sauce. Serve them as an appetizer, take them to a pot luck, or make them for dinner if you don’t want to share.
Sweet & Sour Meatballs
Yield: 24 meatballs Prep: 20 minutes Cook: 40 minutes
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp parsley
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
For the Sweet & Sour Sauce
- 1- 5.5 oz can of tomato paste
- 1- 12 oz can of tomato sauce
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- 3 tbsp white vinegar
- 2 tbsp soya sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
Making the Meatballs:
Preheat oven to 350.
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Form into golfball sized balls.
Place the balls on a lined baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes.
Making the Sauce:
Whisk all ingredients together in a large saucepan or pot. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes. Add the meatballs and simmer for another 10 minutes.
This is definitely a classic dish growing up in my family. It’s one of the first things I learned to cook. There is nothing not to love about these meatballs. They pair well with rice, mashed potatoes, or anything really! Bonus- they freeze really well! Cook them, cool them, and pack them away. Then just through together the sauce the day of and you’ll have a super quick meal.
